HAROLD HIROSE EDUCATION FUND
A. Applicant Eligibility
1. must be a current member of the MJCCC. 2. must be a Canadian citizen. 3. must be wholly or partly of Japanese ancestry. 4. must be a resident of the Province of Manitoba. 5. must be enrolled or intending to enroll in a full-time programme of studies at an accredited, postsecondary educational institution (i.e. university, college, business/technical institute).
B. Selection Criteria
Scholarship recipient will be selected on the following basis: 1. academic achievement. 2. demonstrated leadership ability and participation in activities with the school and general community. 3. participation in activities and organizations within the Japanese Canadian community.
Note: The Selection Committee will select the one application that, in its estimation, is superior overall. The three criteria listed above may not necessarily be given equal weight or merit.
C. Application Requirement
1. application form completed in its entirety. 2. an official transcript of marks indicating, at minimum, the last two years of schooling. 3. proof of enrolment or an official letter of acceptance from the post secondary institution. 4. two letters of reference: i) one from an educator who is familiar with the applicant's academic performance and extracurricular involvement. ii) one from an individual who knows the applicant in some other capacity. Reference letters from relatives are not acceptable.
Note: Should applicants wish the return of mark statements and/or letters of acceptance, they must enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope with their application.
D. Deadline for receipt of completed applications is September 30 of the current year.
