Classes

The ultimate tension
reliever! Led by a seasoned yoga practitioner the
sessions are great therapy for beginners to
intermediate yoga students and include
asana,
pranayama and meditation.
Classes are offered Tuesdays 5:30pm - 6:30pm January 10 to
March 13 (Ten classes) Cost $100 for members $120
for non-members. Drop-in fee $12. Minimum of 6
people required, maximum 20. |

Japanese Card Creations Workshop
Instructor:
Elaine Shimane Brown
Learn step-by-step
techniques using traditional printed and textured
paper to make origami kimonos, cranes and other
embellishments to create all-occasion greeting cards
with that Asian flair. Ideal for framing too! $25
plus $15 supplies fee, per person. One class: 1 p.m.
– 3:30 p.m. February 12. This class for adults with
limited enrolment. |

Oriental Napkin Folding & Table Adornments

Hosting a sushi
party? Use the delicate craft of paper-folding to
create unique origami pieces that add that genuine
Asian touch to create a fabulous party atmosphere.
$25, plus $12 supplies fee per person. One class: 1
p.m. – 3:30 p.m. March 4. This is class for adults
with limited enrolment. |

Ikebana (Flower Arranging)
– Organized by: Lee Matsuo & Debbie Tsuyuki
It is relaxing,
satisfying and almost heavenly to arrange flowers
properly! There will be 6 classes this spring
starting April 25 for 6 occasions – 7:30pm – 9pm
Final class is May 30. Cost is $45 for 6 classes;
drop in fee is $10 per occasion. Enrolment will be
limited in size. |

Origami Club
This group meets
normally on the fourth Sunday of each month from 2-4
pm at the Centre (unless there’s a special event
that day or a holiday- then the group shifts to the
3rd Sunday). You need to be a Centre
member ($15 single; $25 family) but anyone can join
in. The only extra cost is $5.00 for materials
(annual cost September to September).
Those
under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. We’re
always interested in new people and new designs.
Bring a friend, favorite model, new book or make a
request or suggestion. Those who play with string
figures – Cat’s Cradle (Ayatori) - as many Origami
creators do, bring a string and trade some figures!

Judo
Classes

Requiring a
combination of agility, strength, and mental
discipline, Judo is a Japanese martial art
form that offers children a chance to gain skills
and self-confidence. Students will practice
fundamental Judo throwing and holding techniques in
a safe, recreational environment. Classes are
offered Thursdays 6pm – 7pm January 12 to May 3 Cost
(for half year starting January): $75 for members
$90 for non-members |

Sushi Supper Classes!
We had to turn away
people for last year’s class because class size is
limited. It’s too yummy! You make it and eat it.
Mondays: February 6 and March 12. 6:00 p.m. – 8:00
p.m. Instructor: Sadao Ohno, Chef and founder
of renowned Edohei Sushi & Japanese Restaurant – the
sensei who’s launched the careers of many of
Winnipeg’s top sushi chefs can teach you with a
twist. Of course you dine on what you prepare, but
also feast on what Chef Ohno adds in! It’s a
delightful way to have dinner Cost is $50 for each
class (includes all materials and Makisu - rolling
mat – your souvenir of a memorable culinary
experience)! Registration before close of day
